The new Demelza Hospice for Children in South East London

There are an estimated 780 children affected by life-limiting or life-threatening conditions in South London and the need for a new children’s hospice in the area was highlighted in a Feasibility Study in January 2004 With the construction of the new facilities at Wensley Close, London SE9, Demelza will be able to extend its services to meet the local needs in the capital.

The services to be provided will include:-

Residential short breaks for children in a six bedroomed ‘home-from-home’ setting

En suite accommodation for families wishing to stay with their child

Day care provided by professional carers to help families during the day

Hospice-at-home services by nurses and carers in the family home
Therapies, symptom control and emergency respite

End of life care – at home or in the children’s hospice

Bereavement services and practical advice for immediate and wider family
